Cold-pressed means the seed never went above roughly 50°C during extraction. Heat raises yield and lowers cost, and it also degrades the tocopherols that make argan worth buying in the first place.
Two tells: colour and smell. Genuinely cold-pressed cosmetic argan is pale gold, not deep amber, and it smells faintly nutty rather than toasted. Toasted is culinary argan, which is a different and also excellent thing — just not for your face.
